Guided tour of Ancient Ostia

Ostia, an ancient city that rises at the mouth of the Tiber river, also known as the port of Rome. Crossroads of goods, peoples and cultures, it had 50.000 inhabitants in the second century AD, the most important moment of its expansion.

The undisputed protagonists of the tour will be the archaeological remains, through which we will be able to reconstruct the history and the most important stages of this fantastic Roman city.

We will visit the very interesting Piazzale delle Corporazioni, behind the theater. Here there are remains of numerous rooms, called stationes in Latin, that is, commercial offices represented cities, including foreign ones, which had commercial relations with Ostia. This was the place where quotes or deals were requested.

There will be a visit to the ancient Roman theater and the Forum, the civil center of the city, which rises, as in other Roman cities, at the center of the two main city streets: the cardo and the decuman.

We will walk the steps of the Temple dedicated to the Capitoline Triad – Jupiter, Juno and Minerva – from which we will be able to enjoy a fantastic view and imagine all the buildings present at the time, and their decorative and chromatic richness.

A few steps from the Forum, we will stop inside the Roman thermal baths. This place was frequented daily by the Romans of all social backgrounds, and is still renowned for its beauty and the typical ingenuity of the Romans.
